BRANKSOME RECREATION GROUND – Poole, Dorset, England
A proposal has been placed before Poole Borough Council to relocate Poole Town Football Club onto Branksome Recreation Ground.
The main concerns of the residents are increased noise, car parking, traffic and also the potential for increase in anti social behaviour, all of which will be made worse if the Club is successful in its ambitions to move into higher league status. The main concern of the residents is the significant loss of open public space in the area.
We feel that a better option for the recreation ground, and for a heavily populated residential area of Poole, would be a new community centre which would cater for all types of recreational activities for all ages. The benefits to be gained by such a community centre would have a high positive potential for the area given the right commitment from the council and residents.
Branksome is extremely fortunate to have one of the few remaining large open public spaces within Poole, and there is strong feeling that this should be maintained as such, which we see as a direct responsibility of the Council, and not private venture. Nobody who signed the petition is against change for the better, but moving Poole Town Football Club to this quiet, heavily populated, residential area is not the answer.
We need support from all aspects of the community please write to Poole Borough Council on our behalf to help us save the Recreation ground as it is now not just for us but for future residents of Branksome as a safe area to play, undertake sporting activities or just to sit and talk.
